Marka Photo Archive
Digital history archive for the Mariakerke community

OVERVIEW
Some projects aren't about business growth — they're about preservation. The Marka Photo Archive was built for the local history society of Mariakerke, Ghent, to give their collection of digitised photographic negatives a permanent, accessible home online. Decades of local history, previously locked away in analogue form, are now publicly available for anyone curious enough to look.
The application was designed with simplicity and accessibility at its core — the audience ranges from historians to local residents reconnecting with their past, so the experience needed to be intuitive for everyone. Users can browse the archive and request full-resolution versions of any image directly through the platform. It's a quiet project with a meaningful purpose: making sure that a community's visual memory doesn't disappear.
